What
is ASTAPAC?

ASTAPAC is ASTA's Political Action Committee. ASTAPAC
is the only PAC for travel agents and represents the
collective voices of the Society's travel agent
membership before the United States Congress and the
White House. ASTAPAC funds are granted, in a
bi-partisan manner, to those candidates whose views are
consistent with ASTA on issues vital to the travel
agent and tourism industry. For more information visit

Chapter
President Message

Is Winter ever going to end in the Rocky Mountains this year??? Here it is May 12 and more snow is expected. Thank goodness I just returned from the beautiful island of O’ahu and before that the IDE in Lyon, France.
I first of all want to say Thank You to Joann Thompson for her involvement in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk and getting our chapter all set up for the walk. I hope many more of you will participate next year. It always amazes me in an industry that is mostly women how the industry as a whole does not get more involved in causes in our community like this more.
Many of you probably received my e-mails about the Senate Bill that was trying to be pushed through that was going to place a $6 per day tax on rental cars in our state. Thanks to you all who took the time to write the Senators to voice your opposition,,,,I am proud to say the bill was killed but look for it to appear again in the next session. The tax would have made Colorado have the highest tax amount on car rentals in the country. Amazingly I was not made aware of the bill by anyone locally but by National ASTA,,,,,when someone says “What does ASTA do” this is a perfect example of them knowing about something in our area that I believe many of us had no idea about.
Lastly, I have to say where did the time go? My term as President will be ending this October. It has been a wonderful experience,,,not sure what I will do with all the free time,,,oh yeah,,,I own a travel agency so I will get to focus on my business more,,,LOL!!! I encourage you to get involved locally and run for a position on the local executive board. It is a very rewarding experience and ASTA is about travel agents and more travel agents need to get involved for ASTA is all of us and all of us are ASTA.
Sincerely,
Chris Russo
